1. Investigation Process

Day 1 [Tuesday 21st June]

First we built our Investigation Headquarters and then we spent the day investigating. We looked at our favourite and least favourite parts of the school, made notes in our Investigators Notebooks, asked questions and collected our evidence: photographs, video, sound and words.

Day 2 [Wednesday 22nd June]

We focussed our investigation in on the Dell - we sat and looked at the Dell and we surprised ourselves with our poetry-writing skills. We looked at the Dell in lots of different ways: we examined it in minute detail; we looked at things through magnifying glasses; we used a mini-camera to find out how the Dell looks to a bird or a squirrel; we explored how people of different heights see the world differently; and before we finished, we made sure that we noted down the most important things we'd found out so we wouldn't forget.

Day 3 [Thursday 23rd June]
A delegation of 10 went on a fact-finding mission to Coventry city centre. We visited Millennium Square, the Garden of International Friendship, Volgograd Place, Priory Place, the garden at the Priory Visitor Centre and the Phoenix stone in the Precinct. We were looking for examples of good design in public spaces, and we looked at the way our public spaces had been designed, the materials that had been used and the functions that the spaces had been designed for.

Day 4 [Friday 24th June]
The delegation reported their findings to their classes, and led a discussion about good design, and about how that applies to our task to re-design the Dell to make it a better space for learning. This led onto the formulation of our design brief for the artwork for the Dell.
