School Fete: During the school fete, our artist and architect made an installation using the tree at the edge of the Dell. They attached one end of a piece of string to the tree and pegged the other end to the ground to mark the paths the sun’s rays took through the tree to hit the grass. There was a peg in the ground at every point where the shape the sunlight made on the ground ‘turned a corner’. They filled in some of these planes of light with fabric pegged to the string. Then they asked parents, children and others visiting the fete to write onto luggage labels their thoughts about the new school - what they thought was important about a school; what should be kept from the old school; what a school built to last way into the 21st century would need...the writers were then invited to choose a place on the fabric to tie their luggage label.
